Iggy Considers 'Raw Power' Stooges Reunion
It’s non-stop news on the band-reformation front these days. The latest contender to enter the fray is Iggy Pop, who is considering a revival of The Stooges (aka the band that made Raw Power with Iggy).
Talking to The Australian, Iggy said he recently talked to guitarist James Williamson for the first time in 30 years about working together.
Iggy said they are considering going out and touring only on Raw Power, the 1973 album Iggy made with Williamson and the recently deceased Stooges guitarist Ron Asheton on bass.
Ron Asheton, whose brother Scott is the Stooges drummer, died of a heart attack in January this year.
Ron Asheton played lead guitar on the first two Stooges albums (The Stooges, 1969; Fun House, 1970) before switching to bass for Raw Power.
It’s not known who would play Asheton’s bass parts on the tour – although a likely contender is current Stooges four-stringer Mike ‘Minutemen’ Watt – or indeed when the reformation might take place.
Pop also confirmed that Asheton had written six or seven “hard-driving rhythm tracks” before his demise that could be used in a future project.
