The group was founded by keyboardist/composer Chuck Lamb (Brubeck Brothers Quartet) and bassist extraordinaire Rich Lamb (Hazel Miller Group), both longtime Colorado residents. Dry Jack also featured Kansas City guitar wiz Rod Fleeman (Karrin Allyson) and exciting New York drummer Jon Margolis (Ernie Watts).Returning the Black Hills 35 years later, Backroom Productions and the Performing Arts Center are presenting this legendary group on April 28 in the Studio Theatre at 7:30pm. Concert proceeds will be used to purchase books of cultural relevance for children through the Readiatrics Book Drivedry jack

Moon Walk Schedule 2017
Varies

The Black Hills National Forest announces the Moon Walk interpretive program schedule for the 2017 season. In its 22nd year, Forest visitors will explore soils and other resources beneath the national forest, learn about wildlife and plants on the surface and learn about the night sky above the Forest.

Speakers include South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks, The Nature Conservancy, USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service, Black Hills State University and biologists from the Black Hills National Forest.

Moon Walks are held on a Saturday night close to the official full moon and begin at 7:00 p.m. Most programs last for 1-2 hours and visitors walk an average of 1 mile round trip. As each Moon Walk nears, specific directions to individual programs will be posted on the Black Hills National Forest website at http://www.fs.usda.gov/blackhills or call (605) 343-1567.

Please note, the September star gazing program will be held on the Saturday closest to the “new moon”, not full moon, to better view the night sky.

 2017 Moon Walk Schedule

May 13 – Wildlife, Raptors and Habitats

This walk is located in the southern Black Hills.  Join South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks biologists at an osprey platform to learn about raptors and wildlife and the role they play in this diverse ecosystem.

June 10 – Conserving Cave Resources – Above & Below Ground

This walk is located in the southern Black Hills west of Custer, SD.  The Nature Conservancy will discuss how land use above Jewel Cave National Monument has the potential to affect cave resources and feature stories from cave explorers about their new cave discoveries deep below the surface.

July 8 – Botany

This walk is located in the southern Black Hills west of Custer, SD.  USFS botanists will walk participants along the Hell Canyon rim while discussing the diverse ecosystems that occur both along the rim and in the canyon.  This program is in memory of Andrew Korth, USFS botanist, 2008-2010

August 5 – Soils: The World Beneath Your Feet

This walk is located in the central Black Hills.  Join scientists from the USDA - Natural Resource Conservation Service as they discuss soil development, GIS mapping and the significance of soil types in natural resource management.

September 23 – Star Gazing

This walk is located in the central Black Hills west of Deerfield Reservoir.   Be ready to discover the universe with telescopes and a cellphone APP while guided by a physics professor and students from Black Hills State University under this “new moon” night.
