Make Music Black Hills Returns to the Downtown Library

The summer solstice returns and brings with it Make Music Black Hills. Drop by the library lobby any time during regular library hours (10 a.m. – 6 p.m.) Friday, June 21 and enjoy a stellar lineup of local musicians. Make Music is a free, annual celebration with performers at every level from amateur to professional sharing their music in parks, plazas, porches, public buildings and sidewalks across the city.

The kids will have opportunities to  pet goats, mini-donkey, mini-horse and horses.  Horse rides will be available.   We are a 501c3 organization focused on providing food and medical treatment for unwanted horses.  We assist law enforcement helping to prevent animal cruelty.

Relive the magic and adventure of the beloved story that touched the world. Director Steven Spielberg captivates audiences of all ages in his timeless story of a lost alien and the 10-year-old boy who helps him find a way home. “E.T.” places emphasis on the importance of friendship, decency, love, wonderment and joy. This film is rated PG. Popcorn and beverages will be served.

Live Music at the Library: Paul & Ieva Cataldo | Wilderness Inspired Americana

New England singer and songwriter Paul Cataldo brings his distinct brand of backwoods wilderness-inspired Americana to the downtown library (610 Quincy Street, upstairs) on Tuesday, June 25 from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. Cataldo developed his Appalachian mountain sound while living in Asheville, North Carolina. He and his wife Ieva tour for a living from Florida to Alaska to Lithuania to Portugal. They call their Ford Explorer and 2003 Scamp trailer home.

Chamber Music Festival of the Black Hills Musical Story Time – The Teddy Bear Series

One of our most popular Summer Reading events is the musical story times featuring musicians from the Chamber Music Festival of the Black Hills. Your child can bring their teddy bear and experience original stories accompanied by classical music Tuesday, June 25 at the downtown library (610 Quincy Street, upstairs) and Wednesday, June 26 at RCPL North (10 Van Buren Street). Both story times will be from 9:30 to 10:00 a.m. Enjoy “Three Little Pigs” set to Opera Themes, “The Gingerbread Man, Lost in the Black Hills” and “Rumpelstiltskin.”

Following story time, children are invited to play the featured string instruments with guidance from the musicians.

CASA Spearfish Canyon Half Marathon and 5K
Spearfish Canyon

The 2019 CASA Spearfish Canyon Half Marathon and 5K is Saturday, July 13th.

Marking 33 years for the half marathon, runners enjoy beautiful views of Spearfish Canyon.

All Half marathon finishers receive a medal. 5K walkers or runners can team-up for CASA to vie for superhero awards or participate individually. 

The not-for-profit race benefits the Northern Hills CASA organization through advocacy for abused and neglected children.
