4th Annual End-of- Summer Cook-Out
The Hope Center, 615 Kansas City Street, Rapid City, SD

The HOPE Center will hold its “4th Annual End-of- Summer Cook-Out”. The event will begin at 4:00 PM and
will end when the food runs out. For $5 a person, you will get an Indian taco and a beverage, plus
you’ll have an opportunity to purchase a meal for a neighbor who is living in poverty. Tours of the
HOPE Center will be offered. There will be fun, family-friendly games and activities for the kids. All
proceeds from the cookout will benefit the HOPE Center, a public nonprofit in downtown Rapid City.

The HOPE Center is a drop-in day center that provides a warm, safe environment to individuals living in
poverty and without homes. The center offers basic day services to our guests, including a mailing
center for individuals who do not have a permanent or stable address (currently 2,523 individuals use
this service). We also provide a telephone/message center for those without access to a phone, a
storage center for personal belongings and important documents, a free laundry, various life-skills
classes, and advocacy services and referrals to partner agencies that reduce the impact of the crisis of
poverty. Our primary objective is to establish relationships with our guests so that we become a trusted
source of support for them. It is through these relationships that we present lifestyle alternatives and a
way out of poverty.

Moon Walk Schedule 2017
Varies

The Black Hills National Forest announces the Moon Walk interpretive program schedule for the 2017 season. In its 22nd year, Forest visitors will explore soils and other resources beneath the national forest, learn about wildlife and plants on the surface and learn about the night sky above the Forest.

Speakers include South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks, The Nature Conservancy, USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service, Black Hills State University and biologists from the Black Hills National Forest.

Moon Walks are held on a Saturday night close to the official full moon and begin at 7:00 p.m. Most programs last for 1-2 hours and visitors walk an average of 1 mile round trip. As each Moon Walk nears, specific directions to individual programs will be posted on the Black Hills National Forest website at http://www.fs.usda.gov/blackhills or call (605) 343-1567.

Please note, the September star gazing program will be held on the Saturday closest to the “new moon”, not full moon, to better view the night sky.

September 23 – Star Gazing

This walk is located in the central Black Hills west of Deerfield Reservoir.   Be ready to discover the universe with telescopes and a cellphone APP while guided by a physics professor and students from Black Hills State University under this “new moon” night.

For more information on the Black Hills National Forest, call (605) 673-9200, visit http://www.fs.usda.gov/blackhills or download the new Forest phone app at: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/black-hills-national-forest/id1156230107?mt=8
