Live Classical Music at the Library

Celebrate Classical Music Month at the downtown library (610 Quincy Street, upstairs). Saturday, September 22 from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m., solo clarinet artist and chamber musician Nancy Williams will be joined by pianist Colleen McKirdy to explain and demonstrate Improvisatory Techniques in Music of the Classical Era. Don’t let the title scare you away. Nancy is engaging, funny, and extremely talented.

Nancy Williams has performed throughout the United States, Europe and Australia. Her jazz career has included performances with The Temptations and Four Tops. She writes original compositions under the label Carpe Clarinet and is currently completing her doctorate in clarinet performance at the University of Northern Colorado.

Get tips on creating budgets, opening a checking account, and managing your bank accounts.

Oglala Lakota Artspace Ground Breaking Ceremony

The Oglala Lakota Artspace LLC—comprised of Artspace, First Peoples Fund, and Lakota Funds—announced today the Ground Breaking ceremony for the first-ever arts center on the geographically vast Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota: The Oglala Lakota Artspace.
 
The arts facility is designed to provide local Native artists with increased access to essential resources needed for their work. When complete, the mixed-use arts center will give Native artists access to capacity building programs, training in arts business practices, and opportunities to collaborate.
 
The event will take place 1 p.m. Thurs., Sept. 27 at Lakota Prairie Drive, BIA 2, Kyle, SD 57752 (across from the Pine Ridge Area Chamber of Commerce), and is free and open to the public.

Shriners Host Pediatric Orthopaedic Screenings
Naja Shrine Center, 4091 Sturgis Road, Rapid City, SD

Know a child with signs of an orthopaedic condition or need a second opinion? Families are invited to a complimentary screening clinic in Rapid City, hosted by Naja Shrine Center.

Children will be evaluated to see if their bone, muscle, or joint problem is a treatable condition at Shriners Hospitals for Children- Twin Cities.

Shriners Hospitals for Children provides comprehensive medical, surgical, and rehabilitative care for children with orthopaedic conditions regardless of their ability to pay.

If a child requires follow-up care at the hospital, complimentary transportation may be available through the local Shrine Center upon request.
