(RAPID CITY, SD) – The Rapid City Rush, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Minnesota Wild, announced in conjunction with the ECHL today that forward Peter Sivak and goaltender Adam Vay have swept the ECHL’s weekly awards for Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week and CCM ECHL Goaltender of the week, respectively.


Sivak shined against his former team, the Utah Grizzlies, in a four-game series last week, blasting his former club with 5 goals, including his second hat trick of the season against Utah, 6 assists, 11 points, and a +6 rating.  Twice in the series, Sivak picked up the game-winning goal: once on Monday, January 15th on a third period power play goal in a 3-1 Rush win, and once again on Friday, January 19th as he completed his hat trick with the game-winner in overtime to seal a 4-3 Rush win.


Game-by-game, Sivak had the game-winner in Monday’s 3-1 win, a hat trick and an assist for four points in a 4-3 overtime win on Friday, a goal and three assists for four points on Saturday’s 8-3 win, and 2 helpers in a 6-3 loss on Sunday afternoon.


A native of Cheb, Czech Republic, Sivak has 35 points (14g-21a) in 32 games with the Rush this season, including 19 points (11g-8a) in his last 11 games.  In his ECHL career, the 35 year old veteran has tallied 349 points (150g-199a) in 335 career ECHL games with Rapid City, Utah, Alaska, Fort Wayne, Stockton, Orlando and San Francisco. During the 2013-14 season with the Alaska Aces, he was named to the All-ECHL First Team and received the League’s Sportsmanship Award while helping lead Alaska to the 2014 Kelly Cup title.


Prior to coming to North America, Sivak skated in 576 career games in the Slovakian and Czech Extraliga leagues, amassing 232 points (110g-122a).


On behalf of Peter Sivak, a case of pucks will be donated to a Rapid City youth hockey organization by Sher-Wood Hockey, the exclusive puck supplier of the ECHL. Since beginning its sponsorship of the award in 2000-01, Sher-Wood Hockey has donated more than 37,000 pucks to youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities.


Vay was sensational in net for the Rush in the series against Utah last week as well.  In three starts, the second-year pro went 3-0-0 with a 2.29 goal-against average and a save percentage of .951 in three appearances against Utah last week.  He took his play to a whole new level when he stopped 99 of 105 shots in his final two starts on the weekend.


Game-by-game, the 23-year-old stopped 36 shots in a 3-1 win on Monday, made 46 saves in a 4-3 overtime victory on Fridayand turned aside 53 shots in an 8-3 win on Saturday.


A native of Budapest, Hungary, Vay has appeared in 17 games with the Rush this season going 7-8-1 with a 3.64 goals-against average and a save percentage of .899. He has also seen action in two games with Iowa of the American Hockey League, going 0-1-1 in his time there.  Vay enters the “Stock Show Road Trip” on a personal three-game winning streak.


Under an NHL contract with the Minnesota Wild, Vay is 27-25-3 in 56 career ECHL appearances with Quad City and Rapid City with three shutouts, a 3.21 goals-against average and a save percentage of. 899.


Prior to turning pro, Vay represented Hungary in multiple international tournaments, including the Under-18 World Juniors in 2010-11 and 2011-12 and the 2016 World Championships, winning a silver medal in his first two U-18 appearances.


The Rush now begin their annual “Stock Show Road Trip”, and begin with a matchup against the Allen Americans on Wednesday January 24th.  Puck drop at the Allen Event Center is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. MST.
