R.E.M. Give First Group Interview In Nearly 30 Years

The four members of R.E.M. got together for a group interview with Anthony Mason for CBS Mornings ahead of their induction into the Songwriters Hall Of Fame on Thursday. It marked the first time in nearly three decades that all of the members of R.E.M. took part in a group interview together. In an Instagram preview for the interview, which aired in full on Thursday morning, Michael Stipe, Peter Buck, Mike Mills, and Bill Berry all sat around a table with Mason like old friends, and spoke fondly of their legendary career and the creative potency of their songwriting. “We lived or died on the strength of our songs. So this is a huge honor,” Buck said of the band’s induction. “We did things,” Stipe said with a mix of pride and humility. “And we did it really well from time to time.” (Stereogum)
