AC/DC Notch Their First Ever Diamond-Certified Song In The US With “Thunderstruck”

Following AC/DC’s recent 28-times Platinum certification for Back In Black, tying it for the third highest selling album ever in the United States, the Australian hard rock legends also just hit another massive new milestone. The rousing 1990 anthem, “Thunderstruck,” has just become AC/DC’s first ever Diamond-certified single in the United States. The song was certified Diamond by the RIAA after moving 10 million equivalent units, with their figures now including both straight sales and streaming activity.

Surprisingly, the RIAA hadn’t awarded “Thunderstruck” any certifications at all until now, with the recording association recognizing the song with Gold (half a million units), Platinum (one million), and Diamond certifications simultaneously. Eight other AC/DC songs were awarded Platinum certification, including “T.N.T.,” “Hell’s Bells,” and “You Shook Me All Night Long.” In addition to its newly recognized Diamond certification, “Thunderstruck” was also just found to be the No. 1 rock drinking song in a survey by Flask & Barrel.
