Flaming Lips Collaborator Dies At 17, Drummer’s Missing Daughter Found Safe

Nell Smith, a Canadian singer-songwriter who collaborated with the Flaming Lips on a Nick Cave covers album, died on Saturday (October 5) at just 17-years-old. The sad news was shared by her family in an Instagram post featuring a slideshow of the young musician. Lips frontman Wayne Coyne paid tribute to Nell during the band’s show on October 6, revealing that she died in a car accident. “We are reminded once again of the power of music and how encouraging it can be to be around people that you love,” Coyne said.

In additional Flaming Lips news, drummer Steven Drozd‘s 16-year-old daughter, Charlotte, has been located by Seattle police, after being reported missing on Sunday. Coyne’s wife, Katy, posted on social media Tuesday that Charlotte “was found safe outside of Seattle.” She added: “There’s no other information about the situation yet but she was just found.” (Billboard)
